I recently read a story about a sculptor who was approached by an admirer. This person wanted to know how he was able to sculpt such real life detail images of an elephant. The sculptor said, “It’s quite easy. I simply take a large rock and some chisels then remove everything that is not elephant.”
It occurred to me that this could be the perfect metaphor for how we can change our “self”. If we simply remove everything harmful like hate, greed, jealousy, etc. that is not innate in us we would eventually find our true natural “self” and like the sculptor, be left with a beautiful image.
