The Rodeo
I lived in Houston for 35 years and only went to the Rodeo once. It’s the sort of thing you do once so you can say you have been there and done that. It’s not the sort of thing you need to do as long as you have something else to do. I always figured if I needed some exposure to BS I would just wait for my next business trip to Washington, D.C.

The Importance Of "Being" Ernest Hemingway
On July 2, 1961 at age 61, Ernest Hemingway took his favorite 12 gauge shotgun, loaded it with two shells and blew his brains out.

Loyalty Oaths
We are all familiar with “Loyalty Oaths” from a variety of experiences including school, marriage, military, sports, religion, government, and citizenship.

The "Power" Brokers
Sometimes I hear people ask why a relatively small number of powerful people can form a “cabal” and control the world over the objections of the majority. The answer is quite simple, Power!

Dying
Of all the many pleasures I shall miss when I die, I must mention wine and breathing although not necessarily in that order.
Golf
“I was once invited to play golf and I had to decline. It was my understanding that there was a federal law against reckless endangerment of an endangered species.”

Hypocrisy
“When a stupid man is doing something he is ashamed of, he always declares that it is his duty.”

A Sculptor
I recently read a story about a sculptor who was approached by an admirer. This person wanted to know how he was able to sculpt such real life detail images of an elephant. The sculptor said, “It’s quite easy. I simply take a large rock and some chisels then remove everything that is not elephant.”

Two rules for a good life!
It has been my experience that if you follow the following two (2) rules you will live a good life:
Rule 1. Always do the right thing. You know in your heart what is right and what is wrong, so just do the "right thing".
Rule 1. Always do the right thing. You know in your heart what is right and what is wrong, so just do the "right thing".

A Pebble
As I walked along the beach today, my mind was occupied by the beauty of the day including a clear sky and bright sun. I was enjoying the feel of the sand and surf at my feet. My eye was suddenly caught by a bright object at the water’s edge.

Let it go!
Life is full of painful drama and trauma! You are not going to be able to avoid all of these problems but what you can avoid is embracing and wallowing in them to the point that they destroy your life. Some of these problems are unavoidable but some are self inflicted and can be avoided.

Focus!
They say we use about 1/3 of our mind dealing with “past” anger, regret and guilt. Once that round goes downrange you can’t call it back. You can't unring that bell! Learn from the experience, move on and don’t let it destroy your present or future.
Mindful Consumption
We understand the connection between the healthy consumption of food and a healthy body and mind.
We seldom consider what we are consuming through our other senses. We understand through scientific research how harmful hate and anger are for our mind and body. They say that the person who hates, does more harm to himself than to the person he hates. Of course, if you hate yourself, you have all the bases covered. We are constantly exposed to vitriolic hate filled messages on a daily basis from a variety of sources.

The General
Several years ago I was working as a defense contractor on a project in the Middle East. We had hired a former Army General to be a program manager.
Tough Love
“Tough Love” is not “Love” at all, it’s an oxymoron. George Bernard Shaw said: “When a stupid man is doing something he is ashamed of, he always declares that it is his duty.”

Religion
There was a time of great religious turmoil in Ireland. During that time there were roadblocks manned by the national police. One day a car, pulled up to one of the roadblocks and the guard asked the driver if he was a Catholic or Protestant. The driver declared he was an atheist. The guard ask if he was a Catholic atheist or a Protestant atheists.
Sleep on it!
How many times have you heard the expression: "Let me sleep on it"? Scientist say that when we go to bed contemplating a problem, the answer always seems clearer the next day. Apparently this is because our subconscious mind works on the problem while we are sleeping and the mind is clear of the normal clutter and distractions we experience while working during the day.
About Us!
Erwin Schrodinger has been called the father of quantum theory. In 1933 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in physics for "the discovery of new productive forms of atomic theory." He said, "The subject and the object are one. It does not mean that the dimension separating the two has crumbled with the recent findings in physics. Why this is so is because the dimension never existed in the first place."
A life sentence!
I recall a story about a judge giving a young man a life sentence for a crime he had committed.

The "New World Order"!
On September 11, 1990 George H. W. Bush stood before a joint session of Congress and declared: “We stand today at a unique and extraordinary moment. The crisis in the Persian Gulf, as grave as it is, also offers a rare opportunity to move toward an historic period of cooperation. Out of these troubled times, our fifth objective -- a new world order -- can emerge: a new era -- freer from the threat of terror, stronger in the pursuit of justice, and more secure in the quest for peace.” Source: National Archives.
On May 1, 2003 his son George W. Bush stood on the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln for an infamous "photo op" and declared “Mission Accomplished”. Since then it is estimated that 4,430 Americans have died in Iraq and 1,442 have died in Afghanistan for an estimated total of 5,872 of which a significant number were due to what is euphemistically called “Friendly Fire”. The most famous being the Department of Defenses contrived explanation concerning the death of Patrick Daniel “Pat” Tillman who was a true American hero in and out of uniform.
