Focus!

They say we use about 1/3 of our mind dealing with “past” anger, regret and guilt. Once that round goes downrange you can’t call it back. You can't unring that bell!  Learn from the experience, move on and don’t let it destroy your present or future.
They say we use about 1/3 of our mind dealing with “future” fears and anxiety. No one knows what is going to happen in the future. Something could happen in the next 10 seconds that completely negates all of the imagined, potential, or possible problems you are thinking about. You could drop dead before you finish this article or some other unknown event could develop that completely changes your future.

They say we only use about 1/3 of our mind dealing with the “present”. Focus like a laser on the “present”! If you are with someone, focus 100% of your attention on that moment with that person. If you are working on a problem, focus 100% of your attention on that moment with that problem. You can have multiple projects going on but whatever you are doing, focus like a laser on the moment. If you are with a loved one savor each second because it could literally be over in a heartbeat. Be in the moment and nowhere else!

You don't have to be a Zen Buddhist to benefit from the ability to focus and appreciate the serenity of the moment. Watch a Japanese Tea Ceremony to understand and appreciate. The server enters the room quietly and humbly, bowing and walking quietly. Everything is observed very attentively including flowers, paintings, and utensils. Tranquility fills the ceremony. The discipline of the tea ceremony teaches the art of serenity, awareness and grace, which then become part of one's whole life.
